Before your baby is born, there are many things you can do to prepare. One very important decision is choosing a pediatrician. We invite you to call us and make an appointment (at no charge) to meet our doctors and visit our office. We would be honored and thrilled to care for your baby.
If your baby is to be born at Durham Regional Hospital or UNC Hospital, we will come and see your baby and you during your hospital stay. If your baby is born at another hospital, we will arrange to see the baby at our office one to three days after you return home. You may need to call us to set this up, or the people at the hospital may make an appointment for you.
When you go to the hospital to deliver your baby, tell the OB people that Chapel Hill Children’s Clinic is your pediatrician and they will contact us.
The most important things you can do to have a healthy baby are:
Get good prenatal care as soon as you think you are pregnant.
Take prenatal vitamins and eat and exercise sensibly.
Avoid cigarettes, alcohol, and caffeine, and be sure to consult your physician about any drug you may take during pregnancy.
If you have any health problems, make sure you are in the best possible shape during your pregnancy.
Attend parenting classes.
Learn Infant CPR (we offer classes here, and so do many OBs.)
Learn about breastfeeding and the benefits it gives to mother and babies.
Get a car seat and learn how to install it properly.
